To Familly and Friends of the Cedar Rapids Emmaus Community

The world has watched as Cedar Rapids and many other parts of Iowa have gone under the waters of the historic flooding we have been experiencing on many of the rivers in Iowa.  Many people are looking for ways to help.  Rather than try to coordinate Emmaus work teams, we will be working through First United Methodist Church of Marion's (FUMC) relief coordination center.

If you, or someone you know, is looking for information on how to help or what and where to send relief supplies please go to the following web site:

 http://www.fumcmarion.org/Flood/floodhome.html

This site contains lists of needed supplies and instructions for volunteering for individuals and teams.  FUMC will also be working to host teams of volunteers that are coming into the area to assist with cleanup and recovery.  There will be opportunities for individuals and groups to assist with this effort as well.

We will be working with the Board of Trustees at Salem United Methodist Church as they assess the damage and begin to identify opportunities to assist with clean up.  As we are allowed back into the facility your CREC Board will begin to asses the needs required to be able to resume hosting Emmaus Walks and Chrysalis flights.  Information on this will be posted to the CREC web site as it becomes available.  Details on how to access this information will follow shortly.

Even in the face of such devastation we know that God is Good and He will guide us through the challenges ahead.

In His Service,

Gene Gerber

2008 Cedar Rapids Emmaus Community Lay Director
